PM Software guide

Introduction

In this post I provide an overview of Project management software. I m starting that attempt by categorizing the Project management software according to the purpose they mostly fulfil. That leads to the question of where do we need tolls in Project management. Everywhere.

• Scope definition and management.
• Time and schedule management,
• Cost and budget planning tracking and monitoring and managing,
• Quality definition, agreement, monitoring
• Human Resources acquiring development managing,
• Risk management
• Communication
• Procurement
Size of the project is essential. That means that the categorization must consider different tools for large scale projects and different for small project. One more category will refer to open source software. Finally it is important to distinguish software according to the technology or the medium they are using. There are software which resides on a server in the intranet and other which resides in your PC. There are software working on mobile technology and in other working on cloud. Many new software for the project management combine the mobile and the cloud technology.
There is the new trend of collaboration which could not let unaffected the project management. There for there are specialized platforms for managing projects in crowd sourcing.

Project Portfolio Management with SAP® RPM and cProjects

SAP NetWeaver Portal 7.0 is required for the implementation of RPM. For SAP
NetWeaver 7.0, you must install add-on CPRXRPM first. Installation of this add-on (for example, to an ERP or customer relationship management [CRM] system) is currently not supported. The user interacts with RPM via the portal. This requires the installation
of the business package Projects, Portfolio Management and Design Collaboration and the UI component CPRXRPM_UI. By means of portal roles provided by the package and component, the user gains a user interface in the form of iViews and portal pages. The connection between the portal and the backend–installed add-on is established via a Java Connector (JCo) connection, because the RPM user interface on the Web Dynpro framework is based on Java.
